The South-East Caucus of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has described the recent visit of Mrs. Aisha Buhari, wife of Nigeria’s President to the fiery Enugu Roman Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka as a masterstroke, Daily Post reports.
This is also as the party saluted the President’s wife for flagging-off her free medical pet project – Health Screening Initiative, in Enugu State.
It will be recalled that the First Lady, Hajia Aisha Buhari on Thursday flagged off her free medical pet project at Queens School Enugu, where thousands of women thronged in for free medical tests and medication.
Reacting, the spokesman, South East, APC Leadership Caucus, Mr Osita Okechukwu said, “Hajia Buhari’s choice of Enugu State to flag-off her pet free medical project; in no uncertain terms demonstrates her pan-Nigerian outlook, political sagacity and uncommon patriotism.
“It gives a sense of belonging and similar concrete moves will help to convince ethnic merchants and engender hope on the Nigeria project. We are also enthused that Hajia Buhari choose life threatening health matters which falls under human angle paradigm; unlike her predecessors some of whom embarked on flamboyant showmanship and white elephant projects.”
Going further Mr Okechukwu urged her “to extend her free medical pet project to all the nooks and crannies of the federation, in view of the fact that 98% of Nigerian women lack the financial wherewithal to fight cancer and other life threatening illness in local and foreign hospitals.”
On her visit to fiery Catholic Priest and founder of Catholic Adoration Ministry, Rev Fr. Mbaka, Mr Okechukwu said, “The South-East APC rates her thank you visit as a masterstroke. Fr. Mbaka is a courageous clergy who speaks truth to power. Recall that Fr. Mbaka watered the ground for President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory, when he delivered the prophetic 2015 New Year ’s Eve message.
“It was the loudest condemnation of the Jonathan’s regime from the Christian community. The message was a goodbye message and it resonated across the country and was the last straw which broke the camel’s back.”
Mr Okechukwu, however, implored Mrs. Buhari to remind the president of the decayed and collapsed federal roads in the South-East, the 2nd Niger Bridge, Enugu Coal and other neglected federal projects in the region, adding that, “revamping the South-East physical infrastructure will no doubt motivate Ndigbo to join President Buhari in constructing a progressive Nigeria, and dissuade and douse the pro-Biafra agitators.”
