The Ebonyi State government say it will give workers in the state an extra salary of one month known as ‘thirteenth month’.

The state governor, David Umahi, said on Wednesday that the extra one month salary was to alleviate the suffering of the civil servants.

Mr. Umahi promised to sustain the gesture, which he said would be coming periodically until the economy improves.

“We will do this until economy improves when we can renegotiate with workers on the increment the state government can shoulder,” he said.

He disclosed that there has been continuous fall in the federal allocation to the state, such that in October, the state government allocation went down by N550 million, while the local governments’ allocations went down by N350m.

“That is why I am pleading with the commissioners, chairmen of LGAs and advisers, for us to do everything possible to improve our IGR because it appears it’s the only thing we can fall back on,” he said.

Mr. Umahi said the state has not received its statutory monthly allocation from the federal government this month.

“If not for the sincerity of Mr. President, we wouldn’t have been getting the little we are getting again,” he said. (Premium Times)
