Woman sells grandchild for N150,000 In Abia State

baby-factory-2A woman has been arrested in Abia State for selling her 19-year-old daughter’s baby for N150,000.

Police said that the woman, Eziaku Chidi, sold the baby with the consent of her daughter, Chinasa Chidi, the mother of the child. The police further explained: “Their arrest followed a tip-off received by operatives. According to the report, Chinasa gave birth to a baby sometimes in January 2015.

It was reported that the mother, Eziaku, with the collaboration of one Martha Ajuzieogu, who claimed to be a midwife, working with Lawato Hospital at Osisioma and one Amarachi, now at large, sold the child for N150, 000.” Chinasa said that her mother gave her N10, 000 as her share of the money. She confessed to have used part of the N10, 000 to take care of some of her immediate needs, while the rest of the N10, 000 was used to pay for her apprenticeship.

The police noted: “The self-acclaimed mid-wife, Ajuzieogu, who operates an unregistered maternity home in her residence, conspired with one Ngozi, a welfare officer, Amarachi, Chinasa and Eziaku to sell the baby shortly after delivery to a yet to be known buyer.

Eziaku and Martha claimed the baby died at the welfare home and the corpse thrown into a pit!” The police are working to track down the buyer of the innocent baby. The husband of Ajuzieogu, Mr. Stanley said he tried unsuccessfully to stop his wife from the illegal transactions.

In another development, operatives from Ohuru- Isimiri Division on August 22, 2015, arrested one Lisaa, 25, a Computer Analyst and Ilas 27, a Computer Engineer of Ibadan Polytechnic Oyo State, both from Ogun State for fraud and forgery. When the police got the tip-off, they got a Search Warrant and carried out a search of the suspects’ premises at Ohuru-Isimiri in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

The following items were allegedly recovered from the suspects; 313 completed drivers’ licenses, three packets of passport photographs of over a million victims from all over the country, 22 packets of unfinished driver’s license cards each containing 250 pieces, which is a total of 5,500 pieces, two laptop computers, two desktop computers, one printer and three scanners.

The police said some agents of the suspect had been released, while others are residing at Port-Harcourt. The police added: “The suspects used to charge their customers N1,500.00 per driver’s license. They have been in the business for over two years. One Ola and Morufu own the gadgets and other raw materials used in the fraud. The laptops are however owned by Ilas.”
