The Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has nullified the election of Chief Nyesom Wike as governor of the state.
The chairman of the three-man tribunal, Suleiman Ambursa, in a judgement that lasted for two hours, ruled that Wike was not duly elected in substantial compliance with the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), saying that the election was characterized by widespread irregularities.
The tribunal ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh governorship election in the state within 90 days.
Wike in his reaction said he will appeal the judgment.
