Enugu_state_mapThe Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, in Enugu State, has called on the state government to suspend council elections in the state until the conclusion of the verification exercise it has embarked upon.

This came as the tenure of elected council chairmen in the state elapses in January.

The state government which apparently planned to run the affairs of the councils from next year with caretakers, had attributed its inability to conduct the election to paucity of funds and bloated workforce in the council areas.

It had set up an 11- man committee led by Speaker of the House of Assembly, Edward Ubosi, to verify the number of staff at the council areas and scrutinize their accounts with a view to advising government on how to go about the affairs.

In a statement in Enugu, IPAC, which, however, noted that it was concerned about conducting local government election when local government audit was not concluded, said it would be counter-productive. (Vanguard)
