ugwuanyi A plot by some political opponents of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State to stage a campaign of calumny against him and his administration, has been uncovered, according to Vanguard.

At the centre of the plot is a politician from the state.

It was alleged that the politician who has access to the media has been leveraging on it to launch false reports against the governor.

It was also revealed that the politician enlisted the support of a former commissioner in the state.

A reliable source who was privy to the plot said that the politician was behind the failed moves to incite Enugu workers against Governor Ugwuanyi as well as the recent series of strange negative editorials in national dailies against the governor over the false allegation by the labour union of free Prado jeeps to the House of Assembly members.

The source said the fact that some of the editorials came even after the labour leaders had retracted their uniformed statement and apologised to the governor smacked clearly of calculated plots to smear the governor’s image and undermine the goodwill he enjoys among the ordinary citizens of the state.

It was also uncovered that the politician recently held nocturnal meeting with his cohorts in his Enugu residence where they perfected the plot to roll out the unrelenting smear campaign.

It was gathered that a huge amount of money was voted for the project and that one of those, who used to benefit when the state was in turmoil, donated the larger part of the funds earmarked for the project, stressing that the governor blocked his source of livelihood.

The source derided the antics of the opposition candidate behind the smear campaign.

It maintained that, like in previous occasions, their plot was bound to fail and boomerang against its originator, as the people of Enugu State have unwavering confidence in the ability of Governor Ugwuanyi to lead the state, stressing that no amount of blackmail will dissuade them from supporting him.
