More reactions have greeted the recent report that some political opponents of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State were behind the recent smear campaign in the media against his administration over the spurious free Prado Jeeps allocated to Enugu State House of Assembly members.

Reacting to the development, a frontline pressure group in Enugu, The Enugu Peace Mandate Forum, EPMF, through its Chairman, Mr. Obiajulu Jideofor, described the uncovered plot as nefarious and war against the overwhelming majority of the people of Enugu State who have come to terms with the people-oriented and visionary leadership of the governor.
The group quickly called on the state government to investigate the veracity of the allegation leveled against the said politician who was the mastermind, and take appropriate step to cause the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to re-open investigation on his alleged involvement in the fraudulent, illegal possession of Enugu State landed property located at the airport road, Abuja.
Some national dailies yesterday reported that “at the centre of the plot is a politician from the same senatorial district with the governor who contested the governorship primary election with him and lost”. The dailies disclosed that the politician “was also a former member of the National Assembly and had worked in the media for decades before venturing into politics.”
The reports added that “the politician enjoys enormous goodwill from chief executives of some media houses in the country who were his colleagues during his days in the media, and has been leveraging on their relationship to sponsor and instigate negative and false reports against the governor in order to undermine his laudable vision for the state and ridicule him in the public for his selfish agenda”.
A statement by the group further flayed the series of strange and misleading editorials published in a few national dailies against the governor, stressing that they were mischievously conceived and stage-managed by the politician referred to in the publications uncovered.
