Anambra community invokes deities, curses criminal elements

People of Oba community in Idemili South Local Government Area in Anambra State have taken the war against crimes and criminalities in the community to their deities as they displayed various kinds of deities on the road while pronouncing curses on criminal elements.

In a video footage the elders who dressed in white robes and accompanied by youths of the community were seen invoking curses on anyone, be it indigene, visitor or settler in Oba who commits any crime.

Reading in Igbo Language from a list of outlined issues, one of the elders whose identity could not be verified pronounced the curse saying, “Anyone who goes to get power to neutralise this pronouncement we are making in Oba today, let the curse kill him.

“Anyone who steals in the land of Oba, whether you are an indigene of Oba or a visitor or a settler in Oba, whether you break through people’s houses or you rob with gun, matchet or any weapon that can harm people to rob people of their valuable by force, whether you plan against people or you are among those who plan against people, let this curse kill you.

“Anyone using charms to destroy his fellow man in any way, whether you are an indigene of Oba or visitor in Oba, let this kill you.

“Anyone who hinders good things that are meant for his fellow man, let this curse kill him.

“Anyone who oppresses a widow or a widow who oppresses other people in any way, let this curse kill her.

“Anyone who initiates others into evil fraternities that break laws and disrupt the peace of the land, let this curse kill him.

“Anyone who instigates others to commit crimes in any way, or conspire with others to commit crimes, whether an indigene of Oba or a visitor or settler in Oba, let this curse kill him.”

It could be recalled that there have been series of kidnappings, killings and other criminalities within Oba and its environs with some of the criminal elements arrested alleged to be members of the dread unknown gunmen terrorising Anambra State while some have been identified as members of Eastern Security Network (ESN), owned by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
