Enugu State got its first female governorship candidate for the 2019 general elections on Tuesday when Mrs. Nnenna Anozie emerged as the consensus candidate of the Fresh Democratic Party (FDP).

The primary elections had in attendance party delegates from across the 17 local government areas of the state and was observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Department of State Security (DSS) and members of the press.

Also nominated at the primaries were the party’s flag bearers for National and State Assembly polls.

In her acceptance speech, she expressed gratitude to the party members for her victory. She promised to run an inclusive government and lift Enugu State to greater heights if elected as governor.

The governorship flag bearer listed education, health, children, women and youth development as her key areas of priority, assuring that she will assemble a committed team of technocrats to transform the state.

Mrs. Anozie was later presented with the flag of the party by the national leader and presidential candidate of the party, Pastor Chris Okotie, at a ceremony in Lagos.
