Gunmen on Tuesday assassinated an unidentified police officer in Imo State, in Nigeria’s South-East region. He was murdered in Agwa, Oguta Local Government Area. Strikes by gunmen is on the increase in the South-East recently. The attacks are mostly targeted on security agencies and government facilities. The Nigerian government has accused the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) of being responsible for these deadly attacks in the South-East region of the country, but the group has always denied any involvement in such attacks.
IPOB, a secessionist group as we all know, is promoting the churning for an independent state of Biafra to be chopped out of Nigeria.
The leader of the interdicted group, Nnamdi Kanu, is currently detained in Abuja where he is facing trial for alleged treason.
