Police confirm release of auditor abducted in Enugu

Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the release of Stephen Ogbobe, who was allegedly abducted by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Saturday along Nsukka/Adani road.

Ebere Amarizu, the command’s Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) confirmed the release of Mr. Ogbode, an auditor with the Enugu State Government, on Wednesday, in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said Mr. Ogbobe was released on Tuesday as a result of serious pressure mounted on the abductors by police and local vigilante group in Uzo-Uwani.

“I can tell you authoritatively that Ogbobe, who was kidnapped on Saturday along Nsukka/ Adani road has regained his freedom and has been re-united with his family members.

“No ransom was paid as his release was as a result of pressure and combing of bush within the area he was kidnapped by police and vigilante group.

“The police will continue to ensure adequate protection of lives and property in the state,” he said.

Cornell Onwubuya, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Uzo Uwani Local Government Area, expressed appreciation to police and the local vigilante group for mounting pressure on the kidnappers.

“The abducted state auditor was released unconditionally on Tuesday as no ransom was paid and has already re-united with his family members.

“I commend the police, the vigilante group and every other person who contributed in one way or the other towards the release of Ogbobe,” he said. (NAN)
