The Delta State Police Command has arrested popular Asaba-based content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, widely known as “Odogwu Asaba,” over allegations of rape involving a 20-year-old woman who later died.

According to the police, the arrest followed a petition alleging that the deceased travelled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, after Ogbonna invited her with a promise to train her in content creation through a programme advertised on his social media platforms.

Police alleged that the suspect lodged the young woman in a hotel, where he raped and physically assaulted her. The victim reportedly returned home traumatised and narrated the incident to her parents.

Before her death, the woman reportedly recorded a video recounting her ordeal and the emotional trauma she suffered following the alleged assault. She was later said to have ingested a toxic substance in an apparent suicide attempt and died despite efforts to save her.

Confirming the arrest, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, ordered an immediate and comprehensive investigation upon receiving the petition. Acting on the directive, operatives launched an investigation, which led to Ogbonna’s arrest.

Edafe stated that during preliminary investigations, the suspect made useful statements to the police, while further investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.

The Commissioner of Police assured the deceased’s family and the public that the investigation would be thorough and that no aspect of the allegations would be overlooked.
