The former Governor of Abia State and the Chief Whip of the Senate, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu on Tuesday lamented that the continued sit-at-home order instigated by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the South-East region is being counter-productive.

Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, Sen. Kalu disclosed that billions of naira are being lost due to the self-imposed lockdown in the South-East.

Appealing to the outlawed group, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Senator said that it is not the right thing to do adding that it would promote hardship.

He said, “I don’t support this sit-at-home, because each day they do so, billions of naira are lost.

”Also, there are families that the only money they make is on a daily therefore any day they don’t make daily money, they don’t feed.

”So, in all honesty, I don’t think this is the right time for our people to do this because you cannot punish the same people you say you want to protect.’’
