Gunmen, on Tuesday night, killed a female local security guard, Mrs. Onwe Blessing Onana, and left another guard with varying degrees of injury following an invasion of the office of Ngbo Central Security at Ngbo Court, in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the Chairman of Ohaukwu Council area, Odono Onwe, said the attack claimed the life of a security officer, left one injured, while some valuable property and a motorcycle were carted away.
The council boss noted that on several occasions, security men in the LGA had been murdered gruesomely by some unidentified gunmen, adding that the attacks had continued to demoralise the frantic efforts of the vigilantes in safeguarding the locality.
He said, “Sorrowfully, we mourn and console the families of the departed security guard who lost her life in active duty, the one who is injured, operatives of Ngboejeogu Central Security, Ngboejeogu Clan, and the entire Ohaukwu.”
He noted that efforts had been put in place by security operatives to ensure that the culprits of the heinous crime were apprehended and brought to justice.
“Our resolve to achieve peace in Ohaukwu Local Government Area can never be undermined by anybody. We urge our people to be vigilant in their environment and report any illegal movement to the nearest police station.
Efforts made to get the reaction of the Ebonyi State Command of the Nigeria Police Force on the matter failed, on Wednesday.
Calls put across to the mobile phone number of the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, were not answered.
She had also yet to respond to messages sent to her mobile as of the time of filing this report, on Wednesday evening.
