…visits Enugu North stakeholders
The Enugu State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate, Dr. Peter Mbah, has restated his resolve to work towards moving the economy of the state seven times higher from its present status if elected governor of the state in 2023.
Mbah made the pledge at the PDP party office at Ogui Nike, during his thank you visit to the Enugu North Local Government Area for their support at the recently concluded governorship primary held on 25th May, 2022.
Addressing the party stakeholders and supporters, the governorship hopeful expressed his readiness to harness the state’s resources to recreate a state that would be leading in gross domestic product (GDP), tackle unemployment and poverty, and boost the local economy.
He stated that the state’s economic trajectory would be driven by technology and investment in the different sectors in state, adding that he was poised to deliver beyond the expectations of the people.
Speaking on the reason for his visit, Mbah said the event that happened on May 25 was no mistake as the people had made the right choice by overwhelmingly voting for him, reiterating that he would reciprocate their support with holistic development and transformation.
According to him, his visit was premised on the massive support he enjoyed from the council area during the PDP gubernatorial primary election.
“We came here for one reason; to say thank you for what happened on 25th of May 2022. We are mindful of the role Enugu North Local Government Area played on my emergence and we can’t fold our arms without saying, thank,” the frontline governorship contender said.
He stressed that the implication of what they did for his emergence is that the economy of the state would soon witness a remarkable change and engage the people in meaningful business. While assuring the party faithful that they had picked someone that is passionate about the economy and welfare of the people, Mbah added that he understood the existential threats bedeviling the country.
He, however, reiterated that with his nomination, there’s hope for the state as he would be bringing new approaches that would trigger innovation through technology.
“What we’re facing together are existential threats, and we need a new approach.
“We have several programmes we have designed that will enable us surmount the existential threats. We have integrated programmes that will accelerate development and move Enugu State away from its current status.
“We want to do things differently and we will break convention and protocol to give Enugu State the world class status it deserves. We are confident that we can achieve a zero percent rate in poverty headcount index. So, we must get ready for what is ahead of us.
“I want to thank all of you in a special way and promise that our administration will give you the state you’ll be proud of. We shall be coming back once the ban on campaign is lifted to unveil our manifesto,” Mbah added.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the council area, Hon Emeka Onunze expressed satisfaction on the choice Dr Peter Mbah as the party’s flagbearer and promised that next year’s election would be a walkover for the PDP in the state.
Other stakeholders that spoke on continued support for Mbah included a former local government chairman in the council area, Hon. Emma Onoh, a former Commissioner of Science and tTechnology, Hon. Chuka Ayogu, former Commissioner for Health, Dr Samuel Ngwu, the pioneer chairman of the council, Chief Igwe U Eke, Chief Ebenezer Ngwu, among others.
