The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Enugu West Senatorial Zone has held its party zonal meeting with a large turnout of members and supporters in Awgu, the party zonal headquarters, more than two years after it was last held.
Commending the mammoth crowd that graced the statutory monthly meeting, the State PDP gubernatorial flagbearer for 2023 general elections, Barr. Peter Mbah lauded the turnout as remarkable and a sign that the party was in good health in the zone.
The meeting which attracted a high number of stakeholders from the five local government areas that made up Enugu West senatorial zone was commended by Mbah as a way of reinventing the party in the state.
While calling for continued unity among the party members, Mbah stressed that the state was lucky to have PDP at the helm of affairs since the inception of the Nigeria’s Fourth Republic, with the party recording landmark achievements in areas of infrastructure, good governance and robust programmes that have put improved the wellbeing of the people.
“We have uncommon history in Enugu State because PDP has been ruling since the Fourth Republic, with our party providing fundamental dividends of democracy and catering to the welfare of the people. So, we don’t have comparison as far as PDP is concerned in Enugu State,” he said, further stressing the party’s resolve to continue to maintain the laudable system which has led to the betterment of the average life of the citizens.
According to him, there’s nothing broken in the state that required to be fixed by other parties as the PDP government had internal mechanisms for making sure things were adequately taken care of even as he stated that he was satisfied with what he saw at the Enugu West zonal meeting.
“Now that our zonal meeting has commenced, I will be paying you visit from time to time in all levels of state, zones, local government areas and wards. We’ve been familiarizing ourselves as kinsmen and we’ll continue with that. We must take our meetings very seriously and we are glad that our party in Enugu West senatorial zone is intact. We are a party with structure in the state. When we talk about structure, we talk about this intimidating crowd of people that came out to show that we are still together. I appeal to us to continue with the spirit of peace and unity as we are seeing it today,” he said.
Earlier in his welcome address, the host chairman of Enugu West senatorial zone, Hon. Okey Ozoani reiterated the zone’s commitment to delivering bloc votes to the PDP in the 2023 elections. “We have more polling units here in Enugu West senatorial zone to deliver victory for our candidates come 2023. The people here today are the major stakeholders in Enugu West and they’re the voice that determine where our votes will go. They’re strongly behind the PDP and we shall be delivering all our votes in next year’s general elections,” the zonal chairman added.
Also speaking, the PDP candidate for Enugu West senatorial zone, Engr. Osita Ngwu while corroborating Ozoani’s position stressed that Enugu West senatorial zone was prepared for next year’s general elections and had put in place all required structures for the campaigns.
“We’ve been talking about peace and unity and we’ve been preparing for the future. We are equal to the task. Your coming here today shows you have hit the ground running. Enugu West is yours,” Ngwu added.
