Joint security team busts criminal hideout, arrests two in Anambra

The Anambra Police Command, alongside a vigilante group in Awka, has arrested two armed suspects and declared a suspected armed robber popularly known as Akada wanted.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Awka, stated that the suspects were arrested for illegal possession of firearms and illegally enforcing a sit-at-home order.

“Police-led Anti-Sit-Home Joint Patrol with Anambra Vigilante Operatives on 25/11/2024, at 10 am, burst a notorious criminal gang of three in Nkwelle-Ezunaka, 3-3 area, arrested two of the armed suspects, and declared the other, popularly known as Akada, wanted over armed robbery, illegal possession of firearm, and enforcement of illegal Sit-at-Home,” the statement read.

According to the statement, the operatives recovered one English-made pistol and other incriminating items.

The statement named the suspects as Chinedu Amah and Prince Nwogu, both males and residents of Nkwelle-Ezunaka.

The suspects were arrested during a hot chase by the operatives after the victim raised an alarm about being held at gunpoint and dispossessed of his iPhone and other personal belongings.

“They all confessed to the crime and mentioned Akada, who is currently at large, as their gang leader,” the statement added.

The police said efforts are already underway to track other gang members, adding that further developments will be communicated in due course.
