Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, last week, flagged off the construction of the Osisioma Ngwa permanent site of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, with a pledge of support from his government to the efforts of the school to actualise its goals.

Ikpeazu, who noted that there were over 5, 000 graduates of the institution occupying and doing the state proud in various fields, said the institution would play a role in filling the needed middle manpower needs of the state, pointing out that the polytechnic was a flagship institution that would drive the economy of the state in the days ahead.

According to him, the institution would also play a major role as the government thought of industrial clusters and boosting Made-in-Aba shoes, disclosing that the polytechnic would supply the first Nigerian-made fire fighting machine soon.

Ikpeazu thanked the management of the polytechnic for its understanding while urging the workers to remain morally upright and continue to do their best.

He expressed his worry about reports over fees charged by the institution and urged the management of the school to supply his office with the fees profile to enable him see the possibility of slashing it.

Prof Uche Ikonne thanked Ikpeazu for lifting the weight of the N2 billion bank facility accessed by previous administrations in the school and other interventions, which had assisted in the payment of accumulated arrears of salary. (Daily Times)
