Enugu indigenes in South Africa to partner with govt on security, agriculture

The President of Enugu State Union in South Africa, Mr Oliver Egesi, said on Thursday that the body was willing to partner with the state government to improve security as well as boost agriculture.

Egesi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Johannesburg, South Africa, that Enugu indigenes resident in that country could partner government to provide CCTV cameras in strategic places.

“Enugu State Union in South Africa is willing to partner the state government to improve security in the state.

“One way we can assist in this regard is to provide CCTV cameras in some strategic places in the state.

“We cannot just come back and start it. We will wait for the state government to give us the go ahead and we will provide assistance,“ he said.

Egesi said that security was very vital for the development of any society, stressing that Enugu state was strategic to the people of South East Zone.

According to him, some members of the Union and other residents of the state had been victims of attacks by hoodlums.

“We believe that with a facility like the CCTV camera, it will be easy to track crimes and identify suspects at the spot of committing an offence,“ he said.

Egesi also said the Union could assist government provide the expertise to boost agriculture.

“There are experts here that we can contact to give government technical assistance to improve agriculture.

“Enugu is blessed with fertile soil and if properly harnessed, could be one of the food producing areas in the country.“ he said.

The president said Enugu indigenes would hold their annual convention in Durban, Kwazulu Natal Province of South Africa on Oct. 31 to strategize and continue with efforts to partner the new administration in the state.

He also said the Union would celebrate Nigeria`s 55th independence anniversary on a low key note to reflect the mood of the nation. (NAN)
