Ebonyi State Government has awarded scholarships to three female graduates from the state to be trained in aeronautical school as pilots.
The project will cost the government N60 million.
Governor David Umahi announced the gesture during the state executive council meeting.
The governor had set up a committee headed by his Senior Special Adviser on Religion and Welfare Matters, Rev Abraham Nwali, to choose three best female graduates, one each from the three senatorial zones of the state.
Briefing the governor and the Exco members on the outcome of the assignment, Rev Nwali said two best candidates from each of the three zones were selected after the first and second sessions of examinations were conducted for them.
Thereafter, the names of the six best candidates were forwarded to the Sate Executive Council and they were re-interviewed, before the best three emerged.
They are Onyinyechi Okorie (South), Linda Obodo (North), and Victoria Okorie (Central). Nwali said the best six candidates were re-interviewed in line with the governor’s directive, to ensure transparency and honesty in selecting the best three.
Governor Umahi said the three persons to be trained would sign an undertaking that when they graduate and secure employment, they would train one person each and the process of selecting them would remain the same.
Meanwhile, the Ebonyi State Welfare Association in Sokoto State has commended Governor Dave Umahi for his commitment to the upliftment of the state since he assumed office on May 29.
The association in its congratulatory message to the governor on his first 100 days in office, which was jointly signed by its president and secretary, Chief Olughu Okpani Agwu and Egbebelu Ugobelu Ifeanyi respectively, said the governor’s administration, “has been richly rewarding to Ebony people.” (Daily Sun)
