… Ali picks only DCG Ukaigwe to represent zone

The appointments and promotions for the management cadre of the Nigeria Customs Service by the Comptroller-General Col. Hameed Ali (rtd) have raised serious issues of geo-political balancing in the exercise.

The current appointment has Ukaigwe PC as the only Deputy Comptroller-General (DCG) representing the entire South East geo-political zone. Strangely, the zone has no Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) in the list.

Incidentally, in the previous appointments dating from January 2014 to October 2015, the South East was represented by Nwosu AC as DCG, with Okafor BC, Okoli OI and Ukaigwe PC as ACGs.

In the new appointments announced by Col. Ali, the Northwest Zone is represented by DCG I.I. Suleiman while Mohammed Abas, Abubakar Dan Galadima and Ahmed Mohammed serve as ACGs.

The four former representatives of the zone were DCG I.M Mera, ACG Suleiman I.I., ACG Ahmed Mohammed and ACG Liman M.B. The Southwest zone now boasts of five officers as opposed to the four the zone used to have. The Southwest officers are DCG Adeyemo G.O., ACG Dosumu F.A., ACG Odumbaku A.T., ACG Adegoke F and ACG Aremu O.

While DCG Adewuyi A.A. departed, ACG Dosumu FA, ACG Odumbaku AT and ACG Adeyemo GO were moved up. The five-officer balance of the South-South zone was maintained as DCG A. Warikoru, ACG C. Edikie, ACG A Chidi, ACGMN Abuehi, ACG PK Ifere stood in the current appointments as against the retirement-cum-promotion of DCG Atte AJ, ACGs Gbemudu VO, Abuehi MN, Ifere PK and Warikoru A.

The North-Central zone fared a little better than the Southeast with Dan Ugo as DCG and Alu Robert as ACG. The zone used to be represented by DCG Aliu GT and ACGs Dan Ugo and Alu Robert. In the case of the

Northeast zone, Umar I.A got promoted as DCG with Umar Sanusi and Azarema Abdulkadir serving as ACGs.

The DCG that left was Musa Tahir A. The promoted officer was Umar IA while Mohammed M. left. The disquiet is quite palpable in the service over the unbalanced appointments and promotions. Many observers fear that there may be an implosion if the issues are not urgently. (The Authority)
