Imo State governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha has threatened to sack the striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of the Imo State University, Owerri Chapter, who have been on strike over the non-payement of their salaries and other allowances due to them by the state government.
Okorocha, who gave the indication while interacting with journalists in Owerri on the activities of his administration over the last five years, disclosed that he would not hesitate to concession the university and engage new lecturers.
He therefore appealed to ASUU members to return to classrooms saying that ASUU was sabotaging the state and delaying the future of lmo children.

According to him, some members of ASUU are bent on truncating the free education programme of the state government.
“The state government is owing the striking lecturers only for the month of April and for an outstanding N600 million indebtedness inherited from my predecessor. We cannot pay now because of the economic situation in the country. We have pleaded with them to see reason but honestly, if they refuse return to work and continue to hold government to ransom, l will be left with no choice but to concession the university, sack all of them and employ new lecturers,” Okorocha said.
