Army offers free medical treatment to Anambra people

SONY DSCWhile Nigerians were celebrating the 55th Independence Anniversary on October 1, the 82nd Division of the Nigerian Army chose the day to offer free medical services to the people within the division.

In Enugu, the Acting General Officer Commanding, GOC, of the division led the team of military health officers to Nike, to attend to the rural people while the Onitsha Military offered free medical services at Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government of the state.

Aguleri, a river-rine area, had not seen government presence, until Mr. Peter Obi and subsequently Willie Obiano who incidentally is from the area where 315 patients were treated, assumed office.

The next port of call for the service on October 2nd 2015 was Anaku in Ayamelum Local Government Area of the state, where the people of the area came out with joy to receive the team.   The traditional ruler of the area, Igwe Peter Oforkansi personally helped in arranging seats for both the visitors and his people to the astonishment of the visitors.

A National Youth Service Corps,   NYSC, doctor who was in the Army team of medical personnel fell just short of weeping, for the show of humility of the traditional ruler, whom he described as “the man at home with his people.”

Altogether, over 6,000 patients were treated by medical personnel from the division with 2,310 of them coming from the seven remote communities of Aguleri, Anaku, Nise, Ozoubulu, Ekwulobia, Enugwu Ukwu and Obosi in Anambra State within the one week of free medical service. (Vanguard)
