Army garrison bursts kidnapping syndicate in Abia

Nigerian-ArmyThe Nigerian Army’s 14 Brigade Garrison based in Ohafia, has burst a notorious kidnap syndicate in Abia State and in the process, rescued a kidnap victim while one of the suspects was apprehended.

Making the disclosure in a statement, Tuesday, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman said: “Troops of 14 Brigade Garrison on Sunday April 10, 2016 conducted an operation aimed at bursting a notorious kidnap syndicate based in Nkporo community of Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.

“During the operation, the troops were able to rescue a kidnap victim, who was earlier shot and kidnapped by his abductors at Aba on April 6, 2016.

“However, one of the suspected kidnappers, Mr. Chidiebere Sunday, was apprehended while two of his suspected accomplices escaped.

“One other member of the gang in a bid to evade arrest through the roof of their den fell, hit his head on the hard floor and died.

“The troops recovered the following items from the kidnappers; 2 AK-47 rifles, 9 AK-47 rifle magazine loaded with 124 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one Pistol, two rounds of 9mm ammunition, two machetes and the sum of N5,490,000 only.

“Other items recovered include a Toyota RAV4 SUV with registration number MUS 428 RZ, military camouflage jungle hat, six mobile telephone handsets, an iPad, Diamond Bank Debit Card, bunch of different keys, two empty bags and a wrap of suspected marijuana.” (Vanguard)
