Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) agents have raided the Abuja office of former Vice President Namadi Sambo.

The agents stormed Sambo’s office Saturday and remained there from 12 noon till 6pm, sources familiar with the operation told Daily Trust yesterday.

The office is said to be not too far away from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the National Defence College.

The sources said the operation was part of ongoing investigation into the arms procurement scam.

Former National Security Adviser, retired Col Sambo Dasuki, allegedly shared a large chunk of the $2.1 billion arms fund to politicians in furtherance of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s failed re-election bid.

It was learnt that the weekend raid on Sambo’s office was made to obtain documents allegedly linking the former Vice President to the arms deal fund deal.

EFCC sources hinted that investigators believe that some of the funds disbursed for political campaigns by the former NSA were routed through the former vice president’s office.
It was learnt that several documents of bank transactions and properties were seized in the raid.

EFCC sources noted that the commission has intensified probe in the financial activities of the former Vice President over allegations of using state funds to finance the political campaigns.

EFCC agents were also said to have visited Sambo’s houses in Kaduna and Zaria in furtherance of their investigations.

The former vice president was away for time from the country but sources said he has returned.

When Daily Trust reporter visited his house in Zaria yesterday, only a handful of policemen were met guarding the place.

They declined to answer questions and said no one was around either to attend to us.
Senior Special Assistant to Sambo on Media and Publicity, Malam Umar Sani, declined comment yesterday.

Sani told our correspondent on telephone that: “No comment because your paper has already done the story without contacting us for our reaction. I will not say anything.” (Daily Trust)
