Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has questioned the state judiciary over the use of its allocation for capital expenditure.

The governor posed the question at the flag off of a new magistrate court complex in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

He was responding to comments by some speakers at event including the chief judge of Rivers state over inadequate court rooms in the state judiciary.

The Governor stated that the comments by the CJ as well as other speakers were “self indicating”, saying he has fully released the allocation meant for the judiciary and wondered what they do with the money.”

In his words “What has the judiciary been doing with their capital budget? All the things being done are done by the executive. We release their capital budget as at when due.

“And again why do you recommend for the appointment of new magistrates when you know there is no court for them? You have indicated yourself .

“As I speak today we are not owing the judiciary any dime.

“I have been in this office for six and half years, when has the judiciary ever commissioned their own project other than the one executed by the state government.”

The governor warned that the judiciary must use the funds released to it for what it is meant for.
