The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has said it would continue to engage other critical stakeholders to ensure that unqualified graduates are not allowed into its mobilization process.

The NYSC Director General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, disclosed this today in Abuja during the 2023 edition of the annual meeting of professional and regulatory bodies having operational links with the scheme.

The DG, who appraised the online application of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, added that the scheme has mapped out strategies to redouble its efforts in enforcing the acquisition of various professional certificates by graduates seeking exemption or participation in national service.

Speaking through the Director, ICT, Mrs Christy Uba, the Director General stated further that there is need for stakeholders’ support to actualize the dream of making progress, especially in the education sector and in the larger society.

“Analysis of performance after two years of constructive deliberations shows that there is a great improvement and commendable efforts by all stakeholders involved.

The continued efforts of the NUC in publishing the names of unaccredited institutions are quite commendable, as Nigerians are getting more informed about these illegal schools.

This has, however,r not eradicated the activities of agents running satellite campuses and awarding certificates of foreign schools in Nigeria. Many of the so-called private universities in neighbouring countries such as Benin Republic, Togo, Cameroun and Niger are operating campuses in Nigeria,” the DG said.

The Director, Corps Mobilization Department, Hajiya Walida Siddique Isa, reiterated the scheme’s commitment to the mobilisation of only qualified graduates that could compete with their counterparts everywhere in the world.

In their separate goodwill messages, representatives of National Universities Commission (NUC), Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), commended the mobilisation process of NYSC and pledged more support to ensure a seamless mobilization process.
