Imo State Government has accused some people of whipping up public sentiments over the arrest of Uche Nwosu in a church.

A statement Monday night by Information Commissioner, Declan Emelumba alleged that Nwosu was “playing up the desecration”.

He said though no stone will be left unturned in efforts to rid Imo of criminality, the government will not support disrespect for a place of worship by security agencies.

Emelumba insists the arrest of Nwosu within the church premises could have been avoided and stands condemned.

“While government regrets the manner the arrest was made we wish to emphasize that since it was purely a security matter.

“The full reason why such an action was taken will eventually unfold and perhaps guide the public better.”

The government appealed to those negatively affected by the action to bear with the government personnel.

Emelumba said Governor Hope Uzodinma holds the Anglican Communion in high esteem and will never support any form of contempt.
