Unidentified gunmen, on Saturday morning, attacked Umuguma division Police Station in Owerri West Local Government Area headquarters in Imo State.
Daily Post gathered that the attack left two Police operatives dead.
One of the operatives, Ifeanyi, who hailed from Umuguma, was said to be a final year student of the Imo State University.
The gunmen invaded the station during the early hours of Saturday at about 4:30 am while the operation lasted over 30 minutes.
A community source, Mr Okechukwu said they heard heavy explosives in successions.
He said “nobody slept here, we were scared to leave our homes but we knew it was a heavy bombardment. Unfortunately, they killed our own brother, Ifeanyi who was trying to defend the station and his people by extension”.
The sources said they overwhelmed the security operatives during the operation which left cars and properties destroyed.
Hundreds of people have already besieged the station to catch a glimpse of the incident this morning when DAILY POST visited the scene.
The Imo State Police Spokesperson, Michael Abattam while confirming the attack maintained that no life was lost and no firearm was carted away.
He said “yes, there was an incident, but our men repelled them, no life was lost and neither did we lose any firearm. They threw in dynamite which ignited the roof but our men engaged them. No life was lost and no arms were lost.
