Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has described the arrest of former Secretary to the Federal Government, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim as an act of political intimidation.

Reacting to the arrest of the former Senate President by the Economic And Financial Crime Commission(EFCC), the group urged the Federal Government to desist from the perceived intimidation, victimisation and witch-hunt of selected Igbo son’s and daughters through the anti-corruption body.

In a statement in Owerri, the OYC President, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, charged the anti graff agency to stop intimidating, harassing and embarrassing Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim and other eminent sons of the Igbo nation.

Igboayaka recalled that a similar treatment was meted out to a former Abia Governor Sen. Orji Uzo Kalu.

“Ohanaeze Youths Council is urging EFCC to immediately stop intimidating, harassing and embracing Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim and other Igbo prominent sons of the Igbo extraction.”

He said: “EFCC has been characterized with political conspiracy to witch-hunt the perceived opposition members of other political parties or those that are not in the corridors of power.

“Selective fight against corruption is the worst corruption ravaging the political cum economic growth of Nigeria, Economic And Financial Crime Commission ought to be an independent institution but the principle of its establishment has been messed up by government undue influence,” Igboayaka stated.

“The government should as a matter of urgency desist from intimidating the perceived opposition members, and use EFCC for the purpose for which it was established.”
