The Standards Organisation of Nigeria has unveiled plans to checkmate cyber crimes with its ISO 27001 Information Security Management Systems Courses certification.
The certification is aimed at standardising the nation’s Information Technology sector.
Director-General, SON, Mallam Farouk Salim, made this known in a report generated from the agency’s certification validation exercise made available to newsmen on Friday in Lagos.
Salim said obtaining the certification was to checkmate hacking and other cyber crimes which had led to huge financial losses, worth over N200 billion annually.
He added that the effort was part of SON’s commitment to sanitising the IT industry through training and implementation of the International Organisation for Standardisation’s standards.
Salim said the validation of the ISO 27001 ISMS course was part of the organisation’s effort to guarantee confidence in its ability to offer full training and certification packages to the Nigerian IT industry.
He added that the validation course would, amongst others, provide the organisation with holistic and strategic packages to boost reliability and efficiency through the regulatory agencies and professional bodies.
The SON boss further said the training would also ensure that SON could commence offering ISO 27001 Information Security Management Systems Courses for institutions and businesses.
“This training, when deployed, will address standardisation and regulatory deficits in the IT sector.
“It will also help institutions and businesses that wish to secure their information away from hackers and other cyber security threats.
“The training will also increase SON’s pool of qualified auditors in pursuant of the execution of the Memorandum of Understanding between SON and the National Information Technology Development Agency, the nation’s foremost supervisory body for Information Technology.”
The SON training services directorate also announced the release of the year 2022 training programmes and the commencement of the circulation of enrolment forms to the general public for various courses scheduled for the year.
