Bandits have released Ramatu Yunusa, the wife of the Chairman, Zamfara State Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Sanusi Gusau, after collecting N15m from the family.

Yunusa, who was nine-month pregnant when she was abducted two weeks ago, was also delivered of a baby girl in the bandits’ camp.

A family member, who spoke to Punch Metro on condition of anonymity, said both the mother and the newborn baby were receiving treatment in a hospital in Gusau town.

He maintained that the sum of N10m was initially paid for ransom, but when the woman was delivered of a baby girl, the bandits said they needed additional money for the baby.

He said, “We paid the bandits the sum of N10m ransom as they demanded, but as they were about to release her, she was delivered of a baby girl.

“They told us that we must also pay additional money for the newborn baby.

“So, after a series of difficult negotiations, the bandits agreed to collect another sum of N5m as a ransom for the baby.

“Both the mother and her newborn baby are currently in a hospital in Gusau town.”
