Super Eagles coach, Austine Eguavoen, has spoken on payment for his players, coaches and officials of the senior national team.

The interim head coach said that the method of payment of allowances has changed, explaining that they are now paid through their bank accounts instead of the old method of being given cash.

“Things have changed, and mode of payment has equally changed,” Eguavoen told The Guardian when asked if the players, coaches and officials have received their payments.

“Now, we have to submit our bank details, and your money goes into your account unlike before when you get your money by hand.”

The former Super Eagles defender and 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner, further thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for his financial support to the team.

He said that the Federal Government wants to ensure that things are now done the right way and accountably too. He also commended his players for their discipline.

Eguavoen further thanked his former teammates during his playing days, who have shown their support for him during this period.

“I also thank my old teammates, Austin Okocha, Victor Ikpeba, Kanu Nwankwo, Sunday Oliseh, Emmanuel Amueke, Samson Siasia and others for their words of encouragement,” the coach added.

Nigeria will face Tunisia in the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday having beaten Egypt, Sudan and Guinea Bissau to reach the next stage.
