A yet-to-be-identified person has died in a motor accident that occurred at the Amaokpala village by Umunze-Ekwulobia Road, Aguata LGA in Anambra State.
The accident happened on Wednesday at 10:45hours and it was between three unidentified drivers of a commercial Mercedes Benz tipper with registration number, XA554AGU; commercial Mack trailer, with registration number, AKL876XP and a commercial motorcycle with no registration number.
Punch gathered that the probable cause of the crash was as a brake failure.
Four male adults were involved in the crash, while one person (the bike rider) was killed, three persons were rescued unhurt.
Confirming the incident, the acting Sector Public Education Officer, Margaret Onabe, said the trailer failed brake and rammed into the tipper and motorcycle and crashed.
Onabe said, “A fatal road traffic crash was recorded on December 20, 2023 a few kilometres before Amaokpala village by Umunze-Ekwulobia Road, involving three unidentified drivers.
“The probable cause of the fatal crash was as a result of brake failure. According to an eyewitness report, the trailer failed brake and rammed into the tipper and motorcycle and crashed.
“The dead victim was taken to Ajalli General Hospital by the Federal Road Safety Corps rescue team from RS5.37 Umunze Unit Command.
“The rescue team members are on the ground managing traffic and ensuring obstruction caused by the crash is cleared.”
She said the Sector Commander, Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, commiserated with the family of the dead victim.
“Irelewuyi admonished motorists to regularly service their vehicles to minimum safety standard before plying the road especially this festive period that the road is very busy,” she added.
