The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah has assured that no other political party can displace the PDP in Enugu State.
Mbah gave the assurance in Udi, the headquarters of Udi Local Government Area when paid a thank you visit to the council area on Saturday.
The governorship candidate who has been touring the local government areas in the state to express his gratitude over the outcome of the party’s governorship primary election held in May stated that the PDP has been governing the State over the past 23 years because of the trust the people have in the leadership of the party.
Sharing the reason behind his tour, Mbah said he was visiting to show that he values the support the local government gave him in the last outing.
“We are here today not to campaign because it’s not time yet. We came to appreciate you and to tell you that we are marvelled by your show of love. We will not joke with it.
“You voted for us because the PDP in the state has been doing well in meeting the welfare of the people. The governor has done well and the state has witnessed improvement. It’s because you wanted someone who can do something differently and alter the trajectory of the economy that motivated you to support us.
“This shows that PDP will not allow itself to be displaced by another party. This is why you voted for me. Our party has reinvented itself through the election of qualified and credible candidates in the last primaries. We will not fail you and will be counting on your 100% support when it’s time,” Mbah told the gathering.
While sharing the snippets of what to expect from him, Mbah maintained his determination to lead the State to stay afloat of economic turbulence and provide for the needs of the citizens.
He further expressed his desire to replicate his success story in the petroleum downstream sector where he built his company from scratch to the market leader in the industry. “We will come in with disruptive innovation and play the role of a viable state in the federation. We did it in the oil and gas industry where we started from a one room studio apartment.
“Despite the industry being in already mature state, we were still able to displace those we met to come out tops. We did something differently through creative thinking and disruptive innovation. We wore our thinking cap and today we’ve grown our industry and made huge marks in the country.
“So, we have a clear vision and mission for our State. We will initiate robust policies for the people of Enugu, and engage them in our key developmental programmes. We will create economic productive zones in each of the 3 senatorial districts, and this will mean production, processing and other things that follow. When it’s time, our action plan for the state will be unveiled for you. I thank you immensely and your support will be reciprocated in due course,” the 2023 governorship hopeful said.
The Chairman of the Local Government Area, Hon. Philip Nnamdi Oko, speaking on behalf of the people in his earlier welcome address, emphasized that he had no doubt about the daring and audacious qualities of Barr. Mbah in his aspiration to move the State to greater heights.
“Our governorship flagbearer has an outstanding personality, and he merits to be the next governor of the state. We are promising that during campaign we will be eager to receive you here in our local government. Let me assure you sir; we are PDP and we breathe the party. You’ll always have our support. Our votes here in Udi will be the first round of votes that’ll arrive the collation centre for you.
“We want to thank the governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and our party members for selecting credible and sellable candidates to fly the party’s flag in 2023. We will deliver our mandate to them,” the Chairman said.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Matters in the State, Chief C.O.C Egungbe described PDP as a big masquerade that will continue to win elections in the state. Egumgbe, who was the founding chairman of the party in the state, further assured of the party’s support for its candidates, adding that Mbah was the choice of the people. While expressing satisfaction over the reconciliatory efforts in the council area, he called for forgiveness and true spirit of reconciliation for the sake of the party.
Re-echoing the position of the party, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Works, Barr. Tahill Ochi, described Mbah and his running mate as a superlative combination that will change the narrative of the state.
Others that spoke at the thank you visit included the Managing Director of Enugu State Housing Development Corporation, Hon. Chukwuemerie Agu, serving House of Assembly member for Udi South State constituency, Hon. Chuka Eneh, Udi LGA PDP Chairman and flagbearer for Udi South State constituency, Engr. Osita Ngwu, PDP Enugu West senatorial zone’s candidate, among others.
