Trouble has ensued in Nkpologwu community, Uzo Uwani local government area of Enugu State, as a 15-year-old boy was gruesomely killed by members of the vigilante in the area.
Information gathered that the members of the vigilante invaded the residence of the deceased on Wednesday night to effect an arrest following a disagreement relating to land in their market earlier in the day. The victim while resisting the arrest, was on the process shot on the waist and he died on Thursday.
We were told by an eyewitness that the news of the boy’s death caused the youths to go on rampage, burning down houses belonging to the members of the vigilante.
“We’re presently living in trepidation because we don’t know what will happen next and we’re helpless,” an eyewitness said.
“Immediately the news that the boy is dead came to the village, the youths mobilized immediately and went on rampage. As I speak with you now, the house of the Chief Security Officer, CSO of our local government, Barr. Chijioke Ezugwu has been completely burnt down.
“The house of another business man, Anthony Ani was torched and this arson is spreading by the day. We call on the relevant authorities to rise up and save our agrarian community before the situation goes out of hand completely.”
Another source said that the victim is accused of selling methamphetamine popularly known as Mkpurumiri and when the vigilante went to arrest him, he resisted and made attempt to running away which led to the shooting.
It was equally gathered that the leader of the vigilante and his members have been arrested and are currently in detention at the police custody.
