President Muhammadu Buhari has said Nigeria is experiencing the most difficult challenges since the civil war.
Buhari said this while addressing Nigerians in celebration of the 61st Independence Day.
“Fellow Nigerians, the past eighteen months have been some of the most difficult periods in the history of Nigeria.
“Since the civil war, I doubt whether we have seen a period of more heightened challenges than what we have witnessed in this period,” the President said.
The civil war, which was experienced between 1967-1969, was fought between the government of Nigeria and the defunct Republic of Biafra.
The years were characterized with heightened food scarcity, insecurity which the nation is experiencing in 2021.
The President, however, said despite the challenges, most Nigerians still maintain the spirit of 1st October.
According to him, it is due to this collective attitude that Nigeria doggedly continues to remain a united and indivisible nation.
