Imo: Gunmen kill policeman, raze police station

Some yet to be identified gunmen have killed a policeman and burnt down a police station in Imo State.

The incident happened at NEPA Junction, Umulogho, Obowo Local Government Area of the state.

Punch reported that the gunmen dragged the police officer out of his room before killing him.

An eyewitness said the gunmen made sure that no police officer was found living in that compound.

The eyewitness said, “They left after about 45 minutes of their unhindered operation, shooting sporadically to scare residents away.”

It was also gathered that after the operation, the gunmen came back in the morning and razed down the Otoko Divisional police station located along the Owerri-Umuahia road.

There were multiple attacks by the gunmen as they killed two security guards same time at Umuelemai, in Isiala Mbano Local Government, and burned vehicles on the premises.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, said the perpetrators of the crime would be apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law.

He said the command’s tactical team has been deployed to the area to assure residents of the protection of lives and property.
