A hotelier, Ogbonnaya Nwadibia, and three yet-to-be-identified guests, have been allegedly shot dead by gunmen who invaded the Galaxy Hotel at Isu community, in the Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Speaking with our correspondent on Sunday, a resident in the area, Igwe Nwaokorie, said the incident happened on Friday night, adding that the armed suspects rode motorcycles to the scene of the incident.
Nwaokorie said when the suspects got to the hotel, they invaded the premises and started shooting indiscriminately, adding that the hotelier and his guests were killed in the process.
He said, “The incident occurred on Friday, August 26, in the night. The armed suspects came in motorcycles, and about three of them entered the hotel.
“Before we could know what was happening, we started hearing gunshots that lasted for some minutes. After they left, three persons were found dead, including the owner of the hotel.”
Punch reported that the incident, which caused tension in the area, had been making residents stay indoors anything from 5pm, and business men and women in the community to close early over fear of further attacks.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chris Anyanwu, when contacted on Sunday, confirmed the incident to The Punch.
Anyanwu, however, noted that the command was yet to have the full details of the incident.
“Yes, the command has heard about the incident but we have not gotten the full details of what really happened,” Anyanwu stated.
