- Miyetti Allah has claimed that some militants killed about 50 northern herdsmen residing in the southeast
- The cattle breeders’ association said it is planning to launch a revenge move on the criminals
- The association also called on the federal government to step up its game in flushing out armed bandits in the region
The Miyetti Allah on Thursday, April 29, vowed to avenge the killing of herdsmen in Igboland by some wanted militants. A spokesman of the herders’ association, Saleh Alhassan, on Thursday said members of the proscribed southeast militia group will pay dearly for the mindless massacre of not less than 50 herdsmen recently, Punch reports.
Alhassan’s words: “So far, more than 50 herders have been killed in the South-East in the last one month, we have the record and the Igbo terrorists led by Nnamdi Kanu will pay for everybody they killed.
“It is unfortunate that they have forgotten history, how we saved a lot of Igbos in the North during the civil war but now they are killing our people. They are making a grievous mistake. We will take necessary steps both legal and cultural steps to avenge the killings of our members.”
As he called on the federal government to deal with the destructive elements in the region, the spokesman applauded security agencies for killing a principal member of the militant group, Commander Ikonso.
He said: “The security agencies should intensify efforts in dealing with all those terrorists killing Fulani herders, burning police stations, prisons and destroying institutions in the southeast.”
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) had said that it would not fold its hands while insurgents try to turn Imo state into a killing field. This position from the ruling party was in reaction to the recent attacks on the state which climaxed to the razing of Governor Hope Uzodinma’s country residence in Omuma village.
In a tweet on Monday, April 26, John Akpanudoedehe, the national secretary of the caretaker/extraordinary convention planning, said the APC was still in amazement over the dangerous and gruesome development in the state.
