Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed in a flood in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State following recent downpours.
A child was rescued from drowning in the deluge while scores were displaced with many residents abandoning their homes.
Residents urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to bring an end to the flooding and erosion problems in the area.
One of them, Mr. Okey Uzor, said: “Accessing our homes during rainfall has become a nightmare. Many people have been displaced, homes abandoned since the last devastating rainfall.
“The recent flood damaged our properties worth millions of naira. A little child almost got drowned in the flood.
“We call on relevant agencies of government to devise urgent solutions to our plight,”
The Nation gathered that some indigenes have started making cash donations to the Town Union to assist the flood victims rebuild their homes.
Reacting, Team Make Ogbunike Great (TMOG) described the deluge as excessive, saying it had caused the collapse of several roads in the area and posed a threat to commuters.
The team leader, Dr. Harris Chuma-Odili, said: “The flood is excessive; it flows into many houses during rainfalls. The last one condemned people’s properties worth millions of naira. We are appealing to the government to come to our aid.”
