The Federal Executive Council (FEC), presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday, approved over N10 billion for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Hadejia airstrip in Jigawa State and construction of control tower and technical building at Enugu International Airport.
Specifically, N7,482,071,196.56, for a period of 18 months, was approved by the cabinet for rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Hadejia airstrip, while N1,973,606,141.75 was approved for the construction of the control tower and technical building in Enugu.
The Federal Government had, in 2021, announced plan to intensify efforts to revive airstrips across the country to address insecurity and boost commercial activities.
Briefing newsmen at the end of the meeting, held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, said the approval for rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Hadejia airstrip contains three items and was awarded to Messrs CCECC.
Also, briefing newsmen, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, said the Council approved three memos – National Duct One Policy, National Child Online Protection Policy and Strategy and Nigerian Data Protection Bill.
He explained that the National Duct One Policy aims to institutionalise provision of ducts during construction in Nigeria at federal, state and local council levels.
