The police yesterday arraigned an estranged wife of former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, Precious Chikwendu, over alleged cybercrime.

Chikwendu was arraigned before Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court, Abuja on five-count charge, in which, among others, she was accused of defaming one Senator Grace Folashade Bent by false publications made on her Facebook account.

She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecuting lawyer, Victor Okoye sought a date for the commencement of trial and prayed the court to remand the defendant in prison.
The lead defence lawyer, Alex Ejesieme (SAN) objected to Okoye’s request that his client be sent to prison.

Ejesieme later moved the bail application he filed for his client and prayed the court to admit her to bail.

Although Okoye objected to the bail application, Justice Egwuatu admitted Chikwendu to bail and adjourned till June 7 for the commencement of trial.

Part of the charge reads: *That you, Precious Chikwendu (f) sometime in July 2021 did knowingly and intentionally send through your Facebook verified account registered in your name ‘Precious Chikwendu’, by means of computer system or network, messages that you know to be false for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience, insult, injury, enmity, hatred, ill will or needless anxiety to one Mrs. Grace Folashade Bent or caused such message to be sent and you thereby commit an offence contrary to and punishable under section 24 (1)(b) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015.
