The Enugu State Police Command on Tuesday said it has arrested one man with a firearm during a clash between two Odo Masquerade groups in Aku, the Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, who disclosed this in a statement, said one man was killed during the Monday clash, which he said also left many others including police operatives deployed to the place injured.
Our correspondent gathered that the clash was caused by a disagreement between the two groups on when to hold the festival.
However, the police in the statement said normalcy had since been restored, while an investigation into the cause of the clash had been launched.
Ndukwe said, “One male suspect has been arrested and a firearm recovered from him in connection with the clash between rival groups in the Aku community of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area over the celebration of Odo Masquerade festival on August 28, 2023, around 4pm.
“The incident led to the shooting and murder of one male victim and injury of others, including police operatives deployed to calm the situation.”
