… to build on Gov Ugwuanyi’s achievements in Nsukka

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah has re-echoed his determination to end poverty and achieve zero hunger benchmark in the State if elected in 2023.

Mbah made this known to the people of Nsukka Local Government Area when he paid a thank you visit to the council area for their support during the last PDP governorship primary in the State.

Reiterating his commitment to grow the economy through disruptive innovation if elected by the people of the state, the leading downstream oil and gas entrepreneur in the country stated that he was not unaware of the present state of hardship in the country, stressing that with his experience in the private sector, the state would be insulated from the economic challenges bedeviling the country.

“We are aware of people living in extreme poverty. We are also aware that people are living in pathetic pit of penury and the challenges they are facing. We have the statistics and we’re working on them. The good news is that we have the solution. We are coming for a rescue mission in the State. We will definitely strive to eliminate hunger in Enugu State with your support.

“The challenges are enormous and nationwide. The economy is bad and there’s insecurity everywhere. There’s looming danger which means we need people with the solution for the compelling problems which are existential. We need people with innovative and creative ingenuity that can disrupt the convention.

“Enugu State needs people with aversion for convention and protocol, and by God’s grace if you elect us next year, it means our tomorrow is here. We will get our tomorrow today. No room for procrastination.

“If we did it just few years ago in the downstream sector where we started from scratch in 2008 and have today emerged as the dominant market leader in the downstream oil and gas sector, we can equally do it in the public sector.

“The approach we are bringing in is called disruptive innovation which is remarkably different from incremental and marginal flow. We are going to replicate same feat in our State,” Mbah added.

Expressing his gratitude to Nsukka people, the PDP gubernatorial candidate informed them he was inspired to embark on the thank you tour because of their invaluable role in his primary election victory.

“We are here because of what happened on the 25th day of May, 2022. The role you played that day is not what we can take for granted. This is why we came to appreciate you and tell you that Nsukka had distinction during the primary election.

“We are also here to tell you the implication of that support because it speaks for something. Your decision isn’t a mistake. It shows that Nsukka is a historic city. You can’t talk of the history of Nigeria without copious references to Nsukka. We are lucky to be part of the story.

“We are going to build on the governor’s achievements in Nsukka. We will trigger industrialisation through agro-allied revolution that will drive the needed development. We already have the financing module to move the state and it’s going to be government enabled, private sector driven.

“We will provide the key indicators and infrastructure that will attract investors to the state. We will activate some sectors by thinking outside the box. We are poised to tap our dormant assets and revitalize stranded sectors. Luckily for the state, there are huge deposits of resources including oil and gas that can be harnessed to drive technological revolution in the state.

“We will ensure that the support you gave us, when you look back after 8 years, you’ll be proud to say you made a right choice in us,” Mr Mbah assured.

Speaking earlier at the ancient Adada Hall, the venue of the event, Barr Walter Ozioko who is the Chairman of the Local Government Area, while welcoming the PDP governorship candidate, expressed delight at the presence of the party candidate.

He observed that the large turnout of people that graced the event was because of the love they have for him. “We are here because of what you represent. You represent our hope. That’s why you see this crowd at very short notice. Let me reiterate that we love you sir.

“We are here for a serious business and we are confident that Nsukka belongs to PDP. During the just concluded primary election, Nsukka PDP had 62 delegates and you got all the votes. Let me assure you that Nsukka is going to repeat the same at the general elections. Nsukka people will do the needful and we are ready to make you proud at the election,” Ozioko said

Also speaking, the former PDP chairman in Enugu State and House of Representatives candidate for Nsukka/Igboeze South Federal Constituency, Engr. Vita Abba promised that the people of the local government would ensure that Mbah garners the highest number of votes from Nsukka in next year’s election.

He further maintained that the council area has the human resources to achieve maximum victory for the party in 2023.

Lending his voice to Abba’s promise was his predecessor and former Secretary to Enugu State Government, Dr Dan Shere who appreciated the Odimma Nsukka for their rigorous drive towards Mbah’s candidacy. He described Mbah as a man of integrity and unblemished character who would lead Enugu State to the promised land.

Speaking on behalf of the members of the House of Assembly present, Hon. Chinedu Nwamba stressed that the thank you tour by Mbah was a sign that he’s going to run an all-inclusive government. He expressed optimism on the choice of Mbah and his running mate, Barr Ifeanyi Ossai, while promising to mobilize the support that would give them landslide victory in the general elections.
