The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, has vowed to get justice for the late septuagenarian, Charity Okoli, who died after her domestic worker, (), alongside other fleeing accomplices, cut her genitals and other body parts for suspected ritual purposes.
Obinabo, who confirmed the development in a statement by her media aide, Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, on Wednesday, expressed sadness over Okoli’s death.
Vowing to use everything within her office to bring all the suspects who perpetrated the crime to book, the commissioner urged residents in the Umunze community, especially the women, to give the court some time to follow the law and make its judgement.
Over 3,000 women from the Umunze community, in the Orumba South Local Government Area of the state, had on Tuesday, staged a protest over the death of the septuagenarian.
Okoli was attacked by her domestic worker and other accomplices at her residence in the community last week.
During the attack, the suspects used a sharp object to cut the 72-year-old woman’s nipples, private parts, lips and fingers.
After the attackers fled the premises, her cry for help got the attention of neighbours who rushed her to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka, where she died while receiving treatment in the hospital.
