President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to depart Abuja, on Wednesday, for Banjul, Republic of The Gambia, to attend the inauguration of Gambian President, Adama Barrow.

Barrow has just been re-elected for a second term, a ceremony Buhari is attending as special guest of honour.

Beside the Nigerian President, other African leaders are expected to be at the Independence Stadium, Bakau for the event.

Recall that Barrow and Buhari developed close ties following the political events in The Gambia in 2017.

In 2017, the former President, Yahya Jammeh, had refused to surrender power after losing the election to Barrow.

Buhari, in conjunction with ECOWAS leaders, moved in to restore democratic rule in The Gambia, which later culminated in Barrow sworn in as President in 2017.

Buhari will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, National Security Adviser, Maj-Gen Babagana Monguno (rtd), Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ahmed Rufai, and other top government officials.

He is expected back in the country at the end of the inauguration ceremonies.
