The pan Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, on Wednesday, described the amended charges against the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, as an exercise in futility.

According to the group in a statement issued by Sola Ebiseni, its General-Secretary, with the amended charges, it appeared that the federal government had come to its wit’s end in the case with the separatist group leader.

Ebiseni in the statement who stressed that the government had been engaging in petty politicking over the trial, stated that Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar had not taken his duty as the Chief Law Officer and Adviser of the federal government with utmost seriousness.

The Yoruba group also alleged that the Minister of Communications, Isa Pantami, who had made inciting statements had never been investigated but the government had been exercising unnecessary energy on Kanu.
The statement partly read “Without prejudice to the determination of the case by the Court it is clear that its end will certainly compound agitations on the national question, an ill-wind that will blow the Buhari administration and Nigeria no good.

“It is saddening, speaks of multiple standards in the governance of Nigeria and a sad commentary on the unity of Nigeria that this same government has in the hallowed recesses of its administration and in charge of a most sensitive Ministry of Communications Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami whose statements is of a higher incendiary propensities than those of Kanu and with possible aggravated heinous consequences.”
