The Management of Abia State College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu (ASCETA), has taken step to sanction unproductive members of staff and in this regard set up a committee to review and ascertain the performances of all members of staff and submit its report within one month.

Provost of the College, Dr. Phillips Nto, told The Guardian, yesterday, that the move had been made known to the academic members of staff during a meeting and that the committee has the Deputy Provost, Dr. Solomon Iheonunekwu and Registrar, Mr. Ikechukwu Odoemelam, as Chairman and Secretary.

He said that the committee’s terms of reference as approved by the college deans and directors, include ascertaining the number of courses taught and scripts marked by lecturers in a semester.

According to the Provost, academic members of staff shall be evaluated on the frequency of their publication of academic papers and journals while that of the non-academic members of staff shall be based on their verified job description and duties they executed within a specified period.

Decrying the attitude and action of some members of staff, especially those that allegedly engaged in acts inimical to the progress and growth of the institution and even use the classroom to vilify the state government, the Provost said that the college management considered their actions as pointer that they no longer wished to work in the college.

He, therefore, enjoined those he described as young and dynamic academic members of staff to access the TetFund opportunity for their growth, promising to ensure that all hardworking members of staff would be encouraged to attain any professional heights through sponsorship.
