Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has called for calm following the abduction of some students of the Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) on Tuesday.

Twenty four hours after some suspected Fulani herdsmen allegedly abducted the students along the Okigwe-Uturu highway, no information has been released concerning their whereabouts.

It will be recalled that during the gangster abduction on Tuesday, May 17, 2023, the driver conveying the eight students to their destination was shot dead by the Fulani marauders who later took the students to an unknown destination.

In a reaction on Wednesday, the Abia State government, in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Barr Eze Chikamnayo, assured the citizens of the state government’s efforts in rescuing those abducted.

The statement reads, “Abia State Government has been informed of yet another incident of senseless kidnapping and unfortunate death of innocent citizens, especially students around the ABSU, Uturu-Okigwe axis and Umunneochi-Ihube area occasioned by the criminal activities of mindless terrorists.

“Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu is a very proactive, security- conscious leader who over the years has proven through visible results that the safety and welfare of all Abians and Nigerians is his topmost priority. “
